U.S. Chamber: Rep. Jason Smith a Leader on Tax Reform, Fighting for Local Businesses

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce released the following statement thanking U.S. Representative Jason Smith (MO-08) for his leadership and commitment to supporting American businesses through pro-growth tax reforms.

Rep. Smith is working to ensure American businesses and workers won’t face the largest automatic tax increase in American history at the end of this year, when many provisions of President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) are set to expire.

“The U.S. Chamber of Commerce thanks Rep. Smith for being a leader and fighting for small businesses,” said Neil Bradley, Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “In Rep. Smith’s district, 35,380 small and pass-through businesses will see an increase of approximately $38,284,350 in their qualified business income deduction through passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This means that these local businesses would pay less in federal taxes and have more money—and certainty—to reinvest in their workforce and grow their business. We urge the House to swiftly pass this legislation and deliver permanent tax relief to businesses and workers across the country.”

The TCJA’s pro-growth reforms allowed businesses across the country to hire, raise wages, innovate, and invest in operations, equipment, and people. Read their stories here. Spotlighting the positive impacts of the TCJA for businesses is a key focus for the U.S. Chamber, ensuring the local benefits of President Trump’s 2017 tax reforms are recognized and prioritized by policymakers.

That’s why the Chamber, in partnership with state and local chambers from across the country, is convening lawmakers with local business leaders in their districts to discuss the need to extend pro-growth business tax policies.

A public opinion survey conducted by McLaughlin and Associates on behalf of the Chamber shows a majority of voters support making tax relief permanent and Americans are more likely to vote for a candidate who advocates for permanent tax relief.

In February, the Chamber led nearly 500 state and local chambers of commerce and national trade associations—representing all 50 states—in urging Congress to permanently extend the TCJA pro-growth tax reforms that help workers and businesses achieve their American dream.
